In this section, we will briefly introduce the positions and duties at sea.

At Sea

Integrated ratings are the general crew on board a ship. It is a skilled occupation with responsibility in both the cargo and engine areas, and requires international certification. The work includes assisting with cargo operations, conducting or assisting with engine and navigational watches, assisting with berthing and unberthing operations, and undertaking general servicing and maintainance of the ship and its machinery.

Marine Engineers are primarily responsible for the safe mechanical operation of a vessel. Essentially, they are responsible for operating and maintaining a vessel's structure, machinery and equipment to make sure the vessel is functioning safely and effectively at all times. The role of a Marine Engineer requires the individual to possess technical skills that enable them to effectively manage a number of distinct job activities. Typical functions of a Marine Engineer include: testing and maintenance of propulsion machinery, refrigeration systems, domestic services equipment, fixed fire fighting devices and electrical generation and distribution networks.
